JESSICA PRAY PATEL, SOPRANO
Hi! I'm Jessica, a voice teacher, soprano, and the owner of Patel Voice Studio in Coralville, Iowa. I founded my studio on the belief that the art of singing with healthy technique can improve confidence, bring joy, and inspire creativity.
I earned a Master of Music in Voice (Opera) from the Yale School of Music in May 2017, where I studied with Doris Yarick-Cross and was the 2017 winner of the David L. Kasdon Memorial Prize. I also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ethics and Public Policy and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Iowa in 2015, where I studied with Dr. Rachel Joselson.
While studying at Yale, I began teaching voice lessons to students at varying levels of singing and musical experience and loved helping my students discover their voice.
After returning to Iowa, I opened Patel Voice Studio in 2018 and since then I’ve had the pleasure to work with over 100 students in the Coralville and Iowa City area.
Jessica is a freelance opera singer based in Iowa City, Iowa. She has been noted for her "exquisite control and warm vocal timbre" in Faure's Requiem by the Jacksonville News, and for her "indomitable spirit" and "sweet, clear quality" in Candide by The Day. Jessica has recently performed with the Jacksonville Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Yale Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras, Orchestra Iowa, and at Carnegie Hall.
